We have job openings from time to time and from year to year. The following are some job descriptions of various positions we hire for and policy information. We like to hire personable employees, self-starters, who care about their guests and especially about safety. This is an awesome wild untamed land and we want our guests enjoy their adventure but want them to do so in a safe environment. Employees will be away from family and friends for several months at a time and closely working with other guides and employees. It is crucial that all work together as one unit and it is a priority for everyone to bring a positive attitude and get along with each other and our wonderful guests.
Job Description - River Guide
Job Description - River guides who apply for this position should be experienced professionals who have extensive knowledge of reading water, operating jet outboard motors and instructing guests on how to spin or fly fish. If you are new to Alaska but have the knowledge listed above, you should have no problems with fishing the streams here. We can offer some "on the job" training for experienced river guides. We just expect to familiarize you with the locations you'll be fishing. Experienced river guides should know how to fly and lure fish, have a broad range of knowledge of flies and tackle and be able to instruct novice and experienced fishermen in catching fish. You supervise and release all fish caught by guests, work with guests who seem to have problems with casting techniques, and be entertaining as well as knowledgeable. You will need cooking skills, first aid training and be able to get along with a wide range of guest personalities. I have listed all the qualifications an experienced guides must have knowledge of. When not guiding, you are asked to help around the lodge with miscellaneous projects.

Job Description - Cook: To FollowDates of Employment - Starting date will be around June 1st annually and ending around October 1st.
Daily Work Schedule - Workday starts at 6:30am normally. The work at that time will be taking your shore lunch and fishing gear from the lodge down to the planes or boats and assisting with loading the aircraft and/or boats. Breakfast is served at 7:15am. After breakfast, you are expected to assist your assigned guests for the day with their gear and get their gear and guests to the dock, to load up. Departure for the days fishing is between 7:15m and 7:45am. If you are assigned to fish locally and will not be flying out, the schedule remains the same with the addition of making sure your boat is gassed, loaded, clean and ready to go. You could be working from a remote river camp and living in a tent. There is always the unknown factor of weather problems. You must be able to adjust.
Salary - 1st year starting salary averages $250.00 per week. This salary is based on a 12 hour workday, seven days per week. We offer a day off every ten days. You are paid once at the end of your summer. This is a great way to save money. Generous raises are offered to guides who return year after year. You can quit or we can let you go at any time. We will deduct income tax, social security and Alaska State Unemployment tax from your checks. You are covered by Worker's Comp Insurance. Off-time activities are not covered. Additionally, all staff at Alaskan Adventures share gratuities. This can add significantly to your earnings.
Traveling to Our Lodge - Your point of hire is Our Holitna River Lodge. The job starts and ends at this lodge. We do not pay airfare from the lower forty-eight to Anchorage, Alaska. We will pay for your transportation from Anchorage to our Holitna River Lodge. (This saves you about $600.00) Note: Since airfares are extremely expensive we do have a plan for assisting you in your ticket purchases. This is a privilege and should not be considered the rule. We extend this favor in return for outstanding employees.
Housing - Single male employees stay in our bunkhouse, or in small cabins with no bath and use a community bath house. Couples may share 1/2 of a duplex.
Food - We serve good food and plenty of it, three meals per day. This does not include cigarettes, candy, liquor, beer or soda pop which can usually be purchased. Meals are served in the staff dining room.
Staff Activities - You can go fishing at any time your are off duty. Employee use of lodge equipment is allowed in return for superior work habits and ethics. Bring your own gear if you plan on fishing. We have a video collection and library if you like to watch movies and read. You're encouraged to bring your own hobby items for your off time enjoyment.
Dress Code - We furnish limited shirts with our logos. Normal wear is to be clean, neat and well groomed. Facial hair is discouraged and no facial piercing. A professional appearance reflects the image we are looking for. We supply any shirts that are required wear. You will be required to bring specific items, such as carhart pants and new jeans. Upon your confirmed employment we will inform you exactly what clothing and equipment you need to bring and what we furnish.
Requirements - Our facilities and equipment are above average and we require employees to keep them that way. we expect superior performance from our employees, in personal hygiene, professional contact with our customers and relations with other employees. The most important factors that we look for when hiring a person is a good attitude and high work ethics. If you aren't willing to put in long hours, this is not the place for you. Alaskan Adventure employees are those who are presentable, personable and friendly. We require people who can present themselves in an outgoing manner. We expect good manners, good grooming and a professional appearance, and to be above reproach. We prefer non-smokers, but this is not mandatory, however any smoking should be done safely and in areas not offensive to others.
Saving Money - Working at the lodge is not only an adventure, but an opportunity to save money. Unlike other jobs, we furnish room and meals. You have no expenses. Your entire income can be saved. All staff at Alaskan Adventures share gratuities. This premiere lodge enjoys generous tips because we provide a great product, fabulous location and outstanding service.
Pets - Sorry, no pets allowed.
Responsibilities - Alaskan Adventures requires you to be an early riser, non or very light drinker, use no illegal drugs, be a self starter, preferably a non-smoker, and work in harmony with other employees and be a team player. Our changeover day is a very active and busy day. Everyone pitches in to assure an orderly change of guests.
Alaskan Adventures is a world class lodge, in a very remote part of the real Alaska, by which superior lodge standards are gauged. We keep this reputation because our staff are friendly, outgoing, sincere, helpful professionals. We insist on keeping this reputation. We do not allow drugs, excessive drinking or partying. Smoking is discouraged.
